The YM-YWHA of North Jersey’s Summer Playschool presents:
WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR

It has become a tradition at Summer Playschool at the YM-YWHA of North Jersey for our campers to have an Act of Kindness project to collect money for a children’s charity. This year, we embarked on a different kind of project. We began a Star Collection to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. This organization grants wishes for children who are facing serious, life-threatening illnesses.

Each child was asked to decorate at least one star at camp and one star at home to bring in and hang up in our hallway. By the end of the summer, we had collected 300 stars. Parents, siblings and friends all got involved and created some beautiful stars. We had a star counting event and then asked parents to pledge a certain amount per star. Contributions were collected in the amount of $1000 and sent to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Our children learned a valuable lesson about giving to others and helping to make the world a better place. They also learned to appreciate how important it is to be a part of a caring community here at the Y, where parents and children, friends and families can come together to make a meaning donation to a worthy charity.
