Parenting Center Playroom Hours

Playroom Guidelines: 
The safety of our young children is of utmost importance.  The Playroom equipment is restricted to ages 3 and under.  Children are to be supervised by an adult at all times when playing on the equipment.  Please do not bring food or beverage into the playroom area for the sake of  those children with food allergies.

Monday - Thursday  9:00am - 8:30pm
Friday:  9:00am - 4:00pm
Sunday:  9:00am - 3:00pm

PARENTING CLASSES at the Y
FALL/WINTER 2010/2011

Baby and Me (Newborn – 7 months)

This 45-minute class is a great opportunity for new moms to “get out” and meet other moms. Class interaction with baby will include songs, stretching/massaging, tactile and exercise activities with toys, bubbles, and variations on baby games to enrich the new parent/infant relationship. Babies can also begin to explore the mazes and soft climbing equipment as they become mobile.

Little Explorers

(8 months - 14 months)
This one-hour class encourages crawling, walking and climbing through mazes and colorful and soft climbing equipment. Mom and baby will move together with parachute games, songs and more! Activities also include fun with bubbles, mirrors, finger play, exploration of manipulative toys and story time. Moms have the opportunity to socialize and share parenting experiences as their explorers have loads of fun!

Parent/Toddler Time

(15 months - 24+ months)
This popular 14-week class for toddlers is a great stepping-stone for your child as he/she prepares for nursery school. It is held in our large nursery school classroom and includes weekly themes (colors, numbers, letters, etc.,) creative art projects using various mediums, exploration of manipulative toys, sand play, dramatic play, unit block climbing, and even water play. Toddlers will also have story time, songs, snacks and a visit to our indoor climbing room or our fenced-in outdoor playground. New option offered for a twice a week class will give your toddler twice the amount of fun!

Prenatal and Postnatal Yogilates

Expectant moms and new moms surely deserve a few hours in the evening to give their bodies the attention they need! Learn breathing and meditation techniques and postures to better relax, while gaining strength and flexibility. Take the time to feel physically, mentally, and emotionally rejuvenated. This eight-week class will prepare you for pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

Baby Together Yogilates

(6 weeks – 9 months)
This is the perfect eight-week yoga class for mothers and babies to do together! It will help new mothers regain strength while working on postpartum issues such as back strain, abdominal and pelvic weakness, stress and sleeplessness. Moms will be able to meet other new moms, spend some quality bonding time with their baby, and improve their mental and physical being while adjusting to motherhood.

L’il Swimmers Sing and Swim

(9 months – 17 months)
What great fun! This 30 minute swim exploration class will lead your child to water acclimation through movement and song, toys and games while reinforcing the importance of play in the first steps of the “learn to swim” process. Parents will learn correct position holds to help make both themselves and their child feel more comfortable in the water, as well as help their child practice age appropriate skills while gaining confidence in and enjoying the pleasures of the water. Each session is six weeks. Parent/caregiver must accompany child in the water.

Stories in Motion . . . at the Y

Stories in Motion is the original early childhood storytelling and movement program with locations throughout New Jersey and continues to be a hit at the Y! Classes with your child will bring stories to life through dance, interactive storytelling, percussion play and more! Children will experience the joy of movement, dance making and storytelling in a creative and non-competitive learning environment. Dance props, music and rhythm instruments are integrated into each class. Parent/caregiver actively participates in this ten week class.

Tot Sports

(18 months – 2 ½ years)
Children will be introduced to the basic skills of sports (hockey, t-ball, gymnastics, basketball and soccer) during this eight week class and have lots of fun while developing motor skills, enhancing their coordination and gaining confidence.  This 45 minute class will include warm up songs instructional, practice and play time with the sports equipment. 
Parent/caregiver actively participates in class activities.

Hip Hop for Tots

(2 years – 3 years) NEW!
Do you every catch your child rocking and rolling to the music you play at home or in the car? Toddlers will have a total blast in this new class, learning some “cool” elementary hip hop and line dance steps and movements to contemporary music. A parent/caregiver must be present and is encouraged to actively participate with their child to become the perfect dance partner! This eight week class will be so much fun for everyone!
