The Abram B. Cohen Nursery School at the YM-YWHA of North Jersey celebrated the graduation of our 4 and 5 year old students on June 13 with family, friends, teachers and lots of singing!  These confident students are more than ready for Kindergarten and the educational and social experiences that lay ahead! YOU NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU BEGAN YOUR LIFELONG LOVE OF LEARNING! Our Summer Playschool features a staff composed almost entirely of our former Nursery School graduates. They love sharing their fond memories of their own experiences with each other, with the children and with their former teachers. Their knowledge of our programs, our facilities and the high expectations our supervising teachers hold for everyone who works with our children, creates an environment that is electric with excitement! Our program begins on Monday, June 30th and ends on Friday, August 15th. Give your child the best preschool camp experience possible!

At the Abram B. Cohen Nursery School, children enjoy modern, airy classrooms, a new, fenced-in playground, an indoor climbing room, a gymnasium with trained physical education staff, and a swimming pool with experienced aquatics instructors. Our staff consists of experienced educators who are dedicated to providing your child with the finest learning opportunities in a caring, warm, supportive environment.

Our developmentally appropriate curriculum features thematic, hands-on learning: the emphasis is on direct, interactive experiences. Children enjoy indoor and outdoor play, activities in math, reading, social studies, science, art, music and Judaic culture. Enrichment classes round out each day with a variety of educational options. The Lunch Buddies program bridges the gap between morning and afternoon sessions. Beforecare and Aftercare offer busy parents a quality childcare setting that extends each day. Our youngsters benefit from our specialized care, from early morning until late afternoon: when they are ready to go to public school, they will be independent, lifelong learners who are ready to embrace a challenging future.

The Wraparound Program for Two Year Olds!  (Must be 2 by October 15, 2008)
This program is designed for children who are enrolled in our 2 Day 2’s and/or 3 Day 2’s from 9:15 - 11:15am

After class, we will escort them to our Parenting Center where they will have their own special room for play, lunch, nap, art, stories and plenty of time for climbing in our new indoor play area. Wrapping the day around our well-respected 2 year old program gives little ones the opportunity to enjoy time with friends in Nursery School and spend the rest of the day in their own place. The day ends at 3:00pm. Before Care and After Care are available. Children may attend Tuesday/Thursday, Monday/ Wednesday/Friday, or all five days.  For further details, call Barbara Zitcer, ext. 247.

Just Me (Mid-Year 2 Day 2’s) 24+ Months (Must be 2 years old by March 1, 2009)
This class is designed to offer a beginning 2 Day 2 year old experience for children who have been enrolled in Mommy and Me and will be 2 years old by March 1, 2008. They will be eligible for the 3 Day 2’s for the next school year. This class is an introduction to the Nursery School and will be for youngsters who are ready to be dropped off by their caretakers and left with the classroom teachers. Nursery School Enrichment Classes
Expand your child’s day through a variety of enrichment classes in the morning. Supervised lunch time is included in the fee with every class. If you take advantage of other programs in the Y, children can be escorted to Lunch Buddies at 11:30am or from Lunch Buddies at 12:30pm.

Lunch Buddies
3 – 5 year olds
Bridge these morning classes to the afternoon classes with Lunch Buddies or simply begin or end your child’s day by adding in this hour! This is a supervised lunch hour for children leaving the morning classes or arriving for afternoon classes. After lunch, there will be time for a brief activity period or art and outdoor activities. Enrollment is for the full year and is available through the Nursery School office only.

Art is easy and fun for 4’s and 5’s. Explore new ways to use shapes and colors to enhance drawing and painting. Learn about a famous artist each week and create your own masterpieces.

Free to Be Three 
PM 3 year olds
This class is especially designed for the curious 3 year old! Thematic units include community helpers, families and their different shapes and sizes, animals and their habits and habitats, nutritious foods, sign language and monsters (friendly ones, of course)! This curriculum captures the preschooler’s imagination and desire to explore new ideas.
