A very special event occurred this October in Kindergarten Enrichment at the YM-YWHA of North Jersey in Wayne!   The children had been studying a lesson “from egg to chick.”  Abma Farms in Wyckoff  provided eggs for the children to care for and watch over.  The children watched as 21 days later, the baby chicks they had been caring for, hatched from their shells!

The Y Kindergarten Enrichment Program is designed to stimulate the mind and spark the imagination with hands-on, exciting educational activities. We offer year long classes in a variety of subject areas. We encourage a child’s curiosity by exploring new ideas and interesting concepts. We provide opportunities in a social setting for children to broaden their knowledge base and increase their understanding of the world around them.

Kindergarten Enrichment programs offer morning and afternoon sessions and switch mid-year following the Wayne Public School calendar. Your child will enjoy a warm nurturing environment with our experienced teachers. Classes are offered for one full year.

Choose from one to five days. Sports & Fitness, games, activities, free time (in class centers) and supervised lunch time are offered daily.

Kindergarten Enrichment begins on September 3, 2008 and ends on June 19, 2009

AM Classes: 9:00-11:30am

PM Classes: 12:30 – 3:00pm

Lunch Bunch – 11:30am – 12:30pm

Monday

Journey to Another Land
Come on board and buckle your seatbelts as we travel around the world. Create your very own passport and we will take you to different countries to learn about their customs and traditions, foods, music and the geography of each land we “visit.”

Imagination Station
As we travel to new and exotic places, we will discover the unique habitats of the people and animals that live in faraway lands. We will awaken your child’s creativity as we recreate these habitats using art, drama, music and language experiences.

Tuesday

Shalom Friends
Celebrate the Jewish holidays and our homeland, Israel, through stories, crafts, holiday foods and dramatics. See the beauty of our Jewish heritage as we learn about rituals and traditions.

Mother Nature
Take a journey into our own backyard for a science and nature hunt. Discover the fascinating world of insects, reptiles, amphibians, and other small animals.

Wednesday

Journey Through Our Body
Hop on board our “Body Train” as we travel to different parts of our awesome body. We will learn how each body part works and how to care for it. Our major project for this class is to have each child construct an individual, life-size model over the course of the year.  This model will depict each of the body parts we have studied.

Circle of Life
We will increase your child’s awareness of how all living things are connected. Through projects, songs and games, we will learn about wildlife, ocean life and their habitats.

Thursday

Junior Journalism
Become a junior newspaper reporter and develop an interest in reading and in the world around us. We create our own newspaper and learn how to interview, using our own “press passes.” We make comics, report on sports, news, weather and explore other areas of interest in the newspaper.

Environmental Explorer
Join us on an adventure to explore our environment and how it impacts our lives.  Develop an appreciation for our fragile Earth through experiments, projects, songs and games.

Friday

Life in Outer Space
We will be taking an imaginary and educational trip through space where we will learn about our solar system. Through songs, experiments, and projects, we will become more familiar with the Sun, the Moon and the Planets. In addition, we will learn about the astronauts and their spacecraft.

World of Books
Value the world of literature through reading. Using books as our guide, we will explore many different authors, themes and ideas.
