Meet Chief
Instructor Sensei Lee A. She is a six-time International Champion in Kata (forms), Kobudo (weapons), and Kumite (fighting). She was a number-one-ranked competitor in the Tri-State Area for more than 20 years. Among her other accomplishments, she holds the honor of being the first female in her karate system to achieve the ranks of 2nd through 6th degree black belt; she is on the New Jersey Koei-Kan Karate-Do Board of Directors, and, has served as the Koei-Kan International Tournament Director over the past few years. She has taught in the West Milford Koei-Kan Karate-Do School, the West Milford adult/children continuing education programs and in Wayne Nursing Homes for rehabilitation and self-defense of the elderly. On a college level, she has taught karate at Montclair State, William Paterson, Fairleigh Dickerson, and Upsala. She served as the secretary, treasurer and President of the New Jersey Karate-Federation, a State Organization founded to support the efforts of the United States National Karate-Do Federation (U.S.A.-N.K.F.) the leading organization of Traditional Karate for the Olympic games. She holds a 3rd degree black belt rank with this Federation as well as being the highest ranked Kumite (sparring) and Kata (forms) judge in the State of New Jersey, under the U.S.A.- N.K.F. organization. She never stops in her quest to learn and know more about the martial arts. Sensei M. Skawinski Skawinski began training in Koei-Kan Karate-Do at a young age and he continues to learn under the guidance of Sensei Brian Frost, the U.S.A. Technical/Administrative Director of the Koei-Kan system, and with the assistance of Sensei Feinstein. In addition to teaching Koei-Kan at the “Y”, Sensei Skawinski has been giving demonstrations and classes to less fortunate children over the past few years. |
As an impressive bonus, Sensei Skawinski brings more than just karate instruction to the “Y” Koei-Kan Karate Club. As a natural competitor, he achieved the title of All State Hockey Player in his teenage years. Staying physically fit for hockey led to his background in weight lifting and bodybuilding. With a love for individual one-on-one competition, he entered into the rings of Pro-Boxing. It wasn’t long before he was making new records for himself. He was a two-time runner-up in the Golden Gloves and at the Diamond Gloves level his knockouts averaged only sixteen seconds to execute. As an adult, Sensei Skawinski continued his love for competition and entered back into the karate tournament circuits, accumulating more than twenty-five USA Titles and eight International Titles before his retirement from the rings. He leaves behind him a legacy that challenges all who follow in his footsteps. Our Black Belts Master Healer Joey Raines. |
