EMPOWERED THROUGH STRENGTH
A STRENGTH AND FITNESS PROGRAM FOR CANCER PATIENTS AND SURVIVORS
In the past, people being treated for a chronic illness ( an illness a person may live with for a long time, such as cancer of diabetes) were often told by their doctor to rest and reduce their physical activity.
Newer research has shown that exercise is not only safe and possible during cancer treatment, it can improve physical function and quality of life. Many cancer care teams are now urging their patients to be as physically active as possible during cancer treatment. Regular exercise is an effective way to counteract the negative effects of inactivity in chronic illness.
The Cancer Wellness Program’s goal is to help cancer patients and survivors resume an active and healthy lifestyle through fitness.
Fatigue is one of the major side effects of cancer, and through light exercise individuals can begin to increase their stamina, thus improving their life.
Participants in the program will enjoy exercises that will increase flexibility and strength. The program is tailored to the individual needs of all participants, no matter where they physically are in the recovery process.
The Cancer Wellness Program is about more than just exercise. The program offers a supportive environment that allows for patients to meet others going through cancer treatment and the healing process.
Empowered Through Strength is a 10 week, small group strength and conditioning program designed for patients and survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and or disease. The program will include a postural and strength evaluation and the development of a personal exercise routine. All sessions will be monitored by a certified personal trainer.
