YM-YWHA Gymnasium Rules

1. No food or drink in the gymnasium, only clear bottled water is allowed.
2. Proper footwear must be worn at all times. No street shoes, boots, sandals, or scuffing sneakers permitted.
3. Instructional classes, practices, games, clinics, birthday parties, and special events may be scheduled at various times. Organized events and rentals take precedence over open gym time.
4. Minors and Adults may not play in pick up games together.
5. All pick-up games have a maximum winning score of 9. The winning score will be reduced to 7 if more than 10 players are waiting to play.
6. All spectators are required to view games from the bleachers; no one may stay behind the scorer’s table or the team chairs.

 
NASM or ACE Certified Personal Trainer Needed
Must have excellent customer service skills, and a passion for fitness Base pay, session rate and commission.  Interested parties should contact Adrienne Donofrio at 973-595-0100 x240.

Wednesdays at 10:30am - Hot Legs, Killer Abs, With Denise Swan
Ready for something new & challenging? It’s all that it says it is. Join Denise every Wednesday in the first floor studio. All you have to do is meet Denise and you will immediately realize her signature training style works. The focus of this challenging class is total core and legs. You’ll be hooked after the first class! Denise Swan attended The Herbert Bergof Studio, NYC, were she studied Jazz & Modern Dance. She is certified in Pilates as well as Balletone. Denise has studied with the world renowned Lotte Berk.

The Fitness Center has made some major upgrades by adding the latest in strength training technology including:

  • Free Motion Selectorized Equipment: Free Motion is the leader in Functional Fitness technology, creating machines that allow the user to be challenged in multiple planes of movement for optimal training results and improvement of functional capabilities.
     

  • New Free Weights - For those true weightlifting enthusiasts, we will be upgrading to all new Olympic plates, Dumbbells and Barbells.
     

  • Core Training - The latest trend in fitness training is actually a return to the basics with the use of medicine balls, Stability balls, and more. The Fitness Center will be adding many of the latest Core Training devices.
     

  • True Stretch Technology - Created by one of the world's leading physical therapists, Gary Gray, the True Stretch is a walk-in cage with multiple anchor points to use to stretch all of the muscles of the body. Simply pick the area you want to stretch in the attached Stretch Guide and follow the instructions to create greater flexibility and mobility!

Fitness Center Orientation
The Fitness Center orientation is designed to give members a basic overview of the facility and to teach proper operation of the fitness equipment. Two complimentary orientations are available to all Fitness Center members. Please call the fitness center at 973-595-0100 Ext.240 to book an appointment.

Executive Health Club Membership
For those looking for personalized service and amenities...consider being a part of the Executive Health Club.  The Executive Health Club Membership offers added incentives as described below that are not found with General Membership.

Saturday Night Zumba Master Class
A Great Success At the YMHA

Cool name, cool moves, great time - Saturday night, January 5, 2008, the Y was the place to be!

80 participants came out to the YMHA of North Jersey to shake, shimmy & sweat with Oneida & her Zumba girls, Deana & Danielle. Young, old, male and female came out to experience the latest fitness craze. A great time was had by all. "It was the greatest feeling, when I looked around the room and saw 80 smiling, happy people it was awesome" said Adrienne Donofrio Fitness Director at the Y. Keep your Eyes open for more Master classes in a variety of styles and a variety of guest instructors.

That’s right, Zumba! You heard it here first at the "Y"!  Zumba is the latest dance fitness craze sweeping the nation.

Want to join all the fun and be a part of what everyone is talking about?  Step into the Monday, or Thursday 5:30PM class or the Tuesday morning 10:15 with Oneida.  Oneida Gonzalez a certified Zumba instructor.   What separates Oneida from other instructors is her high energy and her love of Dance. Since she was a little girl she‘s been dancing the Meringues, the Salsa, and many other dances of her culture.  Zumba is a high energy fitness program set to Latin and other international music.   Zumba is a "feel happy" workout that is great for both the body and mind. 

So, Ditch the Workout and Join the Party!  Been awhile since you exercised? Try our Beginner Zumba Tuesday mornings at 11:30. 


On October 15, 2007 Beto Perez, celebrity fitness trainer and creator of Zumba,  demonstrated a Zumba class live for the Today Show.  After the show, he gave a Zumba master class and picked 30 Zumba instructors from around the area including the Y’s own Oneida Gonzalez to participate at the New York Sports Club in Rockefeller Center!

The start up package is a one time package designed to introduce the first time client to the process of personal training before making a larger commitment. It’s a great way to kick start your workout program.

 

The Y Basic Package 6 One Hour Personal Training Sessions - $330

The Y Basic Package serves the needs of the client who already knows they want to make the commitment to training. It is also the next step for those clients wishing to move forward with their training after completing the Start-Up package. 

 

The Y Essential Package – 12 One Hour Personal Training Sessions - $600

Six weeks work out plan for a fitter you. This Package is designed for the committed client. You’re ready to get moving, you’re ready to get serious about learning the right way to exercise.

 

The Economy Package 24 One Hour Personal Training Sessions - $1080

The Economy Package is designed for the client who has been training consistently, has made the commitment, feels comfortable with their trainer and would like to receive the financial benefit of purchasing in bulk.

 

Buddy Training 6 Sessions $210 Per Person

(Minimum of 2 participants, maximum of 3)

Train with a buddy, commit together. It can be extremely motivating to have a workout partner. Its great too have the support of a friend in the effort to commit to get fit.

Group Power Comes to the “Y”

Group Power is your hour of power!
This 60 minute barbell program strengthens all your major muscles in an inspiring, motivating group environment with fantastic music and awesome instructors. With simple, athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls, Group Power is for all ages and fitness levels.

Group Power uses moves from traditional strength training and programs these movements to music, creating a simple, fun and effective way to train in groups. The class starts with a comprehensive warm-up, followed by eight songs that focus on specific muscle groups, and finishes with a well earned stretch.

This class is Free to members.  Non-members are welcome to try out a class for Free.  Any non-member who wishes to continue, can get 16 classes for only $80.

Zumba is a high-energy Latin dance in a fitness class setting.

Body Conditioning/Step
Twenty minutes of step aerobic routines followed by a series of resistance exercises for the upper body, finishing up with floor work for core strengthening gluteals, hamstrings and general leg exercises.

Develop total body strength using a variety of resistance equipment. Also includes core work.

Boxing Style

The Y offers a variety of Cardio Boxing style classes. Friday Night Fights, Cardio Boxing are one of the varieties we offer. Come punch & kick your way to better health and fitness. Increase self confidence and release stress!

To the Core...& More
A total body workout targeting muscle groups as well as enhancing balance & stability. You will learn positions that are unique to the ball and learn how to adapt to familiar exercises for added challenges, improving core strength, flexibility and neuromuscular learning.

Gentle Yoga
Ease into the basics of Yoga. This class is recommended for beginners, seniors and seasoned Yoga participants that prefer the gentler approach.

Strength & Conditioning One and two minute cardio drills followed by resistance exercise intervals utilizing med balls, stability balls, bands and weights. Wake up and Sweat!

What a way to start the day! A complete mind body experience. Enhance strength, flexibility, cardiovascular conditioning, breathing efficiency and stress management.

Cardio Circuit
Join in on the hard work with Barb Cleggs signature class. This class will knock the wind right out of you. Intense cardio drills such as plyometrics and jump rope are just a few of the drill Barbara will challenge you with.

Pilates Mat
Challenge your core with the time tested method of Pilates. A series of mat exercises created by the late Joseph Pilates designed to strengthen the core and balance the body. Pilates is utilized by professional athletes, dancers and boxers to help improve performance and Physical therapist have incorporated many of the pilates concepts to help back patients.
