What TO DO After School

Originally designed for the Wayne Alliance to assist in promoting the Prevention of Substance.  What TO DO After-School is now being made available to other schools.  The program provides dance through a unique learning process for students in the 4th to 6th grade.  Through exploring decision-making, elements of dance, choreography, music, and stage design students create a dance-theatre performance based on making healthy choices.   

Every Monday through Friday students are faced with a choice… What they choose will lead them down a certain path…it all comes down to a decision, what am I going to do after-school today?

Within Us

In 2007, we were asked by a professor from Seton Hall University to develop a program to expose the performing arts to high school students in the area.  Bringing in an audience of 8th to 12th grade students from the Institute for Urban Social and Economic Development, West Side High Collaborative & Youth WORKS, we presented the program we created call Within Us.  It consists of a 45-minute dance concert consisting of company repertoire.  Students get an opportunity to witness artistic expression of movement.  We express what is in us through our art only to encourage students to grow in confidence in their own expressions; to discover what is within them.  At the end of the performance we provided a Question & Answer to provide students an opportunity to talk about what dance pieces were meaningful to them and why.  During that time we also tell students about different careers in the arts and encouraged them pursue their unique identity and artistic talents no matter what field they choose to go into.  If you are interested in bringing Within Us to your 8th grade or high school please email “Within Us” to kababae@ymha-nj.org
